Last year, two professional drivers impressed the world by setting a world record for gas mileage by taking a cross-country trip in the all-new Kia Optima Hybrid. And while we here at Barnett Kia love wowing our customers with the details of their journey, we knew it was only a matter of time before our favorite South Korean automaker finally decided to start boasting about it themselves.

Specifically, Kia has launched a new marketing campaign that touts the record-setting Optima Hybrid in a rather humorous way. Rather than boasting about the achievement up front, Kia has decided to retell the story with a couple of dramatic liberties taken.

A new TV spot, which started airing on June 5th, shows the two drivers cruising through the desert highway. Their Optima Hybrid pulls over and stops along the side of the road to find a man on a pogo stick hopping along. The passenger in the car asks the man what he's doing, to which he replies that he's trying to pogo his way across the country to set a new world record. Impressed, the two drivers say that they too are attempting to set a world record, then drive off as the tag "Not Your Average Hybrid" comes on the screen.

Not as feature-driven as you may have thought it would be? "When we first started launching about a year ago we did a very product-focused campaign," explains Michael Sprague, Kia Motor America VP marketing. "This lets us tell more of a story."1

And in the end, that's exactly what the company wanted to do. Rather than educate, this new ad simply aims to impress. And if you're impressed by the fuel-efficiency feats of the Kia Optima Hybrid, then feel free to contact Barnett Kia to learn more about it today. We're conveniently located at 3610 Highway 61 North, White Bear Lake, MN, and we're always happy to set you up for a test drive.
