Kia is serious about manufacturing vehicles in the United States. So much so, in fact, that Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia recently took home a rather prestigious award in its home state. Specifically, the Technical College System of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Economic Development co-host Manufacturing Appreciation Week, which always culminates with the 'Large Manufacturer of the Year' award being given out. This year, Kia took home the honor.
"Kia's West Point, Ga., plant is a shining example of Georgia's commitment to supporting new industries in our state and how that continued commitment allows companies like Kia to prosper and grow," explains Georgia Governor, Nathan Deal in presenting the award. "Kia has continued to invest in our state and has delivered a tremendously positive impact in this region."1
Invest how, exactly? The South Korean automaker has enlisted the help of companies and organizations like Georgia Quick Start and the Department of Economic Development, in training a hard-working staff to create models like the 2012 Kia Optima midsize sedan and 2012 Kia Sorento crossover for drivers in the greater White Bear Lake area and beyond.
Governor Deal wasn't the only high-profile person on hand to praise Kia at the event either. Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner, Chris Cummiskey and Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner, Ron Jackson were both at the event to congratulate Group President and CEO of Kia Motors America and KMMG Inc., Mr. Byung Mo Ahn, who accepted the award on behalf of the plant's roughly 3,000 team members.
