Some New Zealanders have all the luck. They get immortalized as extras in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, they got to see Flight of the Conchords perform before they got big, and they even get cars that we Americans will probably never see in person unless we fly halfway across the globe. It just isn't fair, but we can't blame them either. Like us here at Barnett Kia, those New Zealanders just love them some new Kias.
How much does New Zealand love Kia? Enough for Kia to introduce an extremely limited edition 3-door Sport model of the Kia Rio that will be exclusive to dealerships in the country. "The Kia Rio Sport is a version that we have developed especially for our market, based on the 3-door model available in Europe," says Todd McDonald, General Manager of Kia Motors New Zealand. "We wanted to create something with a bit more exclusivity - hence the reason there is only 50."1
That's right, folks. If you don't live in New Zealand, good luck getting one for yourself; and if you do live in New Zealand, you better act fast to get one of the 50 units. And for those wondering what's so great about the Sport edition, here's just a taste of what's new:
- An electronic key that can start the engine with the push of a button
- A 1.4-liter CVVT gas engine
- An audio system outfitted with iPod and Bluetooth capabilities
- An extended body that makes it the largest Kia in its class
Yes, it is indeed a crying shame that Kia currently has no plans for the Rio Sport to end up in our dealership, because we can only imagine the fun we'd have on that test drive. But you know what, that's okay. You come down here to 3610 Highway 61 North in White Bear Lake, MN 55110, you take one of these bad boys on our lot for a test drive, and you'll forget all about those lucky dogs down under. Because if there's one thing we know for certain, it's that the quality of a Kia is simply universal.
