It's been said that it’s the responsibility of its inhabitants to preserve the nature of our planet.

Kia is certainly doing its best to reduce their imprint announcing the upcoming Soul EV, an all-electric version of its top-selling vehicle, Kia said in a press release.

Details such as list price and range currently are scant, but it is known that the Soul EV will have an all-electric engine, meaning it is not a hybrid. About 85% of its materials will be designed to be recyclable when the vehicle has reached the end of its lifespan. So, no tailpipe emissions and recycling of materials equates to a smaller environmental footprint. More specific details will be announced at an auto show coming soon. (Some have speculated that it will be in Los Angeles.)

It’s a bit of a unique concept that a vehicle could be recyclable, but it is one that is exciting and worth taking a look at.

Recycling is generally focused on personal consumer products such as paper, cans and bottles, but having a car that can be partially recycled should be an example to us all about reducing transportation impacts as well.

The upcoming EV will share most of its sheet metal with the second-gen Soul that was introduced at the New York Motor Show this past month.  “The two models will be distinguishable thanks to small differences such as EV-specific paint colors, emblems and wheel covers,” said the release. “Minor changes will also be made to the car's interior.”??

The Soul EV's drivetrain will likely be derived from the unit that is found in the Ray EV, a small minivan that is currently being tested in South Korea as part of a pilot program.  The hatchback will be equipped with a roughly 50-kilowatt electric motor that will be linked to a lithium-ion battery mounted under the car's floor.  Rumors claim the Soul EV will have a range of 124 miles and a top speed of 86 mph.

Look for this new earth-loving vehicle to debut in 2015.
