The 2014 Kia Sorento has
already scored rave reviews in the crossover utility vehicle segment
from many blogs and auto advisors alike in regards to performance and
drivability.
The Sorento can now add safety to its highly-rated reviews.
It was announced this past week that the 2014 Sorento joins the Kia Sportage as a Five-Star Safety Pick from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Sorento was also named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
"Built on an all-new platform, the redesigned Sorento utilizes Kia's advanced safety equipment and technologies to provide a high level of occupant protection for drivers and their families as measured by the U.S. government," said Orth Hedrick, executive director, product planning, KMA in a press release. "Already a compelling entry in the compact CUV category, earning a 5-Star rating from NHTSA makes the Sorento an even stronger contender within its segment while underscoring Kia's overall commitment to delivering safety and exceptional value to our customers."
The Sorento received the highest possible score of "good" in all twenty of the IIHS' offset frontal crash test ratings, joining just 5 others in its class at that rating.
Safety features abound in the Sorento including overhead airbags that are used to protect the occupant's heads in the event of a side collision or rollover and side impact airbags for the front seats that have been designed to protect passenger's torsos during a side impact collision.
Also, a newly-designed stability control feature automatically senses when the vehicles' handling limits have been exceeded and reduces engine power and/or applies select brakes to help prevent the driver from losing control of the vehicle.
