All-time best Soul sales power Kia to record month

Continuing to gain momentum, Kia Motors America reported best-ever August sales of 58,897 vehicles, a 7.7 percent increase over the same period last year, and the brand’s fourth straight monthly sales record. Soul sales spiked to an all-time high single nameplate monthly sales total of 17,108 units, while other top movers in August included Optima and Sorento with 13,980 and 10,211 units sold, respectively. Kia is up 5.4 percent year-to-date.

“Kia has outpaced the industry all year, and that trend continued in August as we set our fourth consecutive monthly sales record despite significant turbulence in the stock market and not having the benefit of Labor Day weekend sales,” said Michael Sprague, Chief Operating Officer and EVP. “Since its introduction in 2009, the wildly popular Soul has been one of the industry’s greatest success stories, and its record-setting August performance comes on the heels of being the highest ranked compact multi-purpose vehicle in initial quality by J.D. Power."

The Soul offers a new Designer Collection, featuring a two-tone paint scheme, perfectly playing up the free-spirit attitude of both the vehicle and its owners. Three unique trim levels (Base, Plus, and Exclaim) remain, and each one adds new features for the 2016 model year. Alloy wheels now come standard across all models. Meanwhile, Base models equipped with the Convenience Package add a 4.3-inch color touchscreen, SiriusXM® satellite radio, and integrated Rear Camera Display.

The Optima's standard and optional features lists are stronger than those of most other mid-size sedans in this price range. Bluetooth and a USB port are included on base models, the mid-level EX trim gets dual-zone climate control and a smart-key system, and top options include Infinity audio, full leather upholstery, and heated rear seats. A navigation system is available, as is UVO, an enhanced system for smartphone connectivity.

The Sorento has been completely redesigned and reengineered for 2016. And within it is both significantly roomier and more refined in nearly every way. The 2016 Sorento still offers a third-row seat, to bump its capacity from five up to seven if you so desire. Also, all Sorento models are about three inches longer, with a wheelbase more than three inches longer, and slightly taller than previous versions.
